Ravichandran Ashwin \u2013 India\u2019s most successful spinner in the past decade has had to deal with a tough phase in his career. Between 2018-2020, Ashwin had at once considered his retirement after dealing with injury and unable to pick up for the side.<\/p>\n
Ravi Shastri\u2019s tenure has affected the career of the spinner to much extent. Ashwin has the fastest to reach 400 wickets even surpassing Muthiah Muralitharan\u2019s numbers. Still, he was sidelined over youngsters on many occasions.<\/p>\n
In the recent interaction, Ashwin recalls the period he has had through in his career but it was Dhoni who guided him over that phase.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring 8-9 months I was nervous. I played every match. Athletic Pubalgia kind of feeling in the body. So if it was nerve moved here or there. Stiffness feels like it went,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI think my self-awareness is very high. And I think a lot. So it was even harder for me. If you get injured, and you\u2019re coming back, it\u2019ll still be in your head. But if you get injured and go through the kind of mental trauma I had to go through, it is even more difficult. And I think I\u2019m extremely well placed for the experience. I\u2019m very well placed to face the adversities of life, for which I\u2019m grateful.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Talking about Dhoni\u2019s beliefs Ashwin has said it had helped him to move through such a phase.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a player, never thought about failure. Go out in the middle and fail to perform it\u2019s okay. Like Dhoni narrates its process versus results. And I believe I have passed the process. Failed to perform in front of a crowd that\u2019s okay to me. At least I have an opportunity where others are still waiting for representing the national side,\u201d Ashwin highlighted<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
