Bishwamitra Chongtam has reached the semi-finals in the 51kg category. His compatriots are assured of a bronze medal at the Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championships in Dubai, on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Chongtam, who has won the bronze in this tournament earlier, was too strong for Kazakhstan\u2019s Kenzhe Muratul. His movement and technical ability secured him an easy 5-0 win.<\/p>\n
Deepak (75kg), Abhimanyu Loura (92kg) and Preeti (57kg) are other Indians who progressed to the semi-finals bouts in their respective categories.<\/p>\n
Deepak won with a flurry of punches in the third round, forcing a referee stoppage in the contest, against Iran\u2019s Dhurgam Karim.<\/p>\n
Abhimanyu, who has been national champion, beat Kyrgyzstan\u2019s Tenibekov Sanjar in a very comfortable manner. The Indian won the contest with the referee stopping the bout in the second round.<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s 57kg category, Preeti won against Mongolian boxer, Tugsjargal Nomin with an RSC (Referee Stopping the Contest) verdict in the second round of the match. This also led her to the semi-finals of her campaign.<\/p>\n
The lone loser from the Indian team was Aditya Janghu (86kg) who lost to Kazakhstan\u2019s Temrlan Mukatayev in his quarter-final bout on the second day of the championships.<\/p>\n
On the 3rd day, six Indian boxers will be seen in action: Krish Pal (46kg), Ashish (54kg), Anshul (57kg), Preet Malik (63kg) and Bharat Joon (81+kg) will play their quarter-final matches, along with Gaurav Saini (70kg) playing his semi-final match.<\/p>\n
The gold medallists in the youth category will get 6000 USD, while the silver and bronze winners will get 3,000 and 1500 USD each. In the Junior category, gold medallists will get 4000 USD and the silver and bronze winners will get 2000 and 1000 USD respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
