Former West Indies captain and two-time T20 World Cup winner Darren Sammy has been appointed to the CWI board as an independent non-member director.<\/p>\n
The Cricket West Indies Board decided during a meeting on June 17.<\/p>\n
Sammy, who led West Indies to two consecutive T20 titles in 2012 and 2016, is one of three Independent Directors appointed for the next two years at last Thursday\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n
He joins Debra Coryat-Patton, a Trinidadian attorney, and Dr. Akshai Mansingh, a Jamaican surgeon and university administrator, who were both re-appointed to a second term.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is an honour to be appointed as a CWI Director; this is another great opportunity for me to give my best to West Indies cricket in a new way, off the field,\u201d Sammy said on the Windies Cricket website.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of my local, regional, and international experiences have equipped me to have a long-term impact on West Indian cricket. I\u2019m ecstatic and grateful for the opportunity to serve, and I\u2019m looking forward to giving back to the sport and region that I adore,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The 37-year-old, who has played 38 Tests, 126 ODIs, and 68 T20s for the West Indies, is presently the head coach of Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League and a cricket consultant for the St. Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).<\/p>\n
Sammy, who last played in the CPL final in 2020, is the first international cricketer from Saint Lucia to have his home country\u2019s national stadium dedicated after him.
