{"id":22697,"date":"2021-07-31T21:20:40","date_gmt":"2021-07-31T15:50:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/sports\/?p=131650"},"modified":"2021-07-31T21:20:40","modified_gmt":"2021-07-31T15:50:40","slug":"tokyo-olympics-belinda-bencic-defeats-vondrousova-in-the-womens-singles-final-to-win-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/sports\/olympics\/tokyo-olympics-belinda-bencic-defeats-vondrousova-in-the-womens-singles-final-to-win-gold\/","title":{"rendered":"Tokyo Olympics: Belinda Bencic defeats Vondrousova in the women\u2019s singles final to win Gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, world number 12 Belinda Bencic defeated Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic 7-5 2-6 6-3 to win the Tokyo Games women\u2019s singles title, becoming the first Swiss woman to win an Olympic tennis gold.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old Bencic can now complete a set of gold medals when she and Viktorija Golubic will play against Czech No. 1 seed Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the doubles final which will be played on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Bencic is also the first Swiss woman to win a singles gold medal since Marc Rosset in the 1992 men\u2019s Olympic final, and she might become only the fourth woman in history to win both the singles and doubles titles.<\/p>\n<p>The final on Saturday began with a tense battle as both players fought to hold their serves before Bencic eventually overcame the 42nd-ranked Czech to win the first set.
