World number two Daniil Medvedev\u2019s journey has come to an end at the Tokyo Olympics tennis tournament on Thursday where he got eliminated by sixth-seeded Carreno Busta in the quarterfinals. He beat Medvedev 6-2, 7-6 (7\/5).<\/p>\n
Spain\u2019s Carreno will be in action against Daniil\u2019s comrade Karen Khachanov in the semifinals to book a spot at the finals of the event after his victory against Ugo Humbert of France.<\/p>\n
Russia\u2019s Medvedev attempted 26 unforced mistakes and provided only 12 winners. He had battled oppressive best and humidity in his previous fixture where he beat Fabio Fognini of Italy surviving heat. The Russian required him to have two medical timeouts before he succeeded in reaching the quarterfinals on Wednesday. He was asked by the umpire if he is doing okay at the court while he was struggling in Tokyo heat to which he had replied \u201cI can finish the match, but I can die. If I die, who will take responsibility?\u201d<\/p>\n
Carreno Busta had knocked out world number one Novak Djokovic in the previous year\u2019s U.S. Open tournament. Novak Djokovic is aiming for a Golden Slam to tie the record of Steffi Graff with four Grand Slams and a Golden Slam in the same calendar year.<\/p>\n
Carreno Busta is playing his first Olympics and his goal is to become the second Spaniard to win the gold medal at the mega event since 2008 where Rafael Nadal got this achievement.<\/p>\n
