Andy Murray\u2019s bid for a third consecutive Olympic men\u2019s singles gold medal comes to an end as he had concluded to withdraw from the tournament before his opening match following an injury.<\/p>\n
The 34-year-old British professional has not been so lucky with his health. He was expected to play against his planned opener ninth-seeded, Canadian Auger-Aliassime today on the Centre Court but experienced an unfortunate right quad strain.<\/p>\n
Two times defending Champion will however contend in the doubles tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am really disappointed at having to withdraw but the medical staff have advised me against playing in both events, so I have made ghe difficult decision to withdraw from the singles and focus on playing doubles with Joe,\u201d said Murray.<\/p>\n
Murray, who has earned gold medals in 2012 and 2016\u00a0 is paired with Joe Salisbury for the doubles event. They conquered second-seeded France\u2019s Pierre Hughes Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Murray has been troubled by injuries for two years. The hip injury doesn\u2019t allow the player to stay on his body for long and that\u2019s what made him suffer in the Wimbledon championship of this year.
