Former Australian fast bowler Merv Hughes became the latest inductee into the Australian Hall of Fame. He played for nine years and represented Australia in 53 tests and 33 One Day Internationals. The Victorian cricketer who dons handlebar moustache has 212 wickets in his bag. He was also the part of the Australian squad in the 1992 World Cup that took place in Australia.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo come in alongside some of the names that are in there is overwhelming and I\u2019m a little bit emotional,\u201d Hughes said to Cricbuzz on Tuesday. \u201cNow 26 years after I finished playing, to still be recognised, it has blown me away. It\u2019s very humbling.\u201d<\/p>\n
He became the Wisden cricketer of the year in 1994. He was Australian team selector between 2005 to 2010.<\/p>\n

Playing 165 first-class matches, he has 593 wickets and 21 five-wicket hauls. In 14 first-class seasons he represented Victoria, Essex, and the ACT<\/p>\n
\u201cEven as synonymous as his on-field record, Merv will be forever remembered as a fan-favourite and his iconic warm-ups close to the boundary, especially at the MCG, that prompted bays of spectators to join in with him at stadiums all over the country. He has left his legacy on the sport in post-career mentorship with modern-day teams, administration roles as a National Selector and the heartbeat of Australian cricket.
