The hashtag \u201cretiredout\u201d is trending on Twitter after Ravichandran Ashwin retired out from IPL 2022 season\u2019s 20th match against Lucknow Super Giants yesterday.<\/p>\n
After walking off after his 28 for Rajasthan Royals on April 10, India\u2019s Ravichandran Ashwin became the first hitter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be \u201cretired out.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ashwin, who had been promoted to No. 6, went off on 28 off 23, allowing Riyan Parag to join Shimron Hetmyer in the middle. Parag scored 8 runs on four balls. RR finished on 165 for 6 thanks to Hetmyer\u2019s 59 off 36.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Cricbuzz, Ashwin finally spoke up about the incident, saying, \u201cIt was an in-the-moment thing. It\u2019s a team game that we often forget in the euphoria. But then it\u2019s an important aspect of the game we haven\u2019t considered. T20 is more a team game than we all know. It is almost as much as football. The goal scorers are like your opening batter or wicket-takers. But they are worth it only if your goalkeeper or defenders are ready to do what it takes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Only four hitters have been retired out in T20s, including Ashwin. Pakistan\u2019s Shahid Afridi, Bhutan\u2019s Sonam Tobgay, and Cumilla Warriors\u2019 Sunzamul Islam round out the list.<\/p>\n
