Dale Steyn explained his decision to skip this year\u2019s Indian Premier League (IPL) and said playing in other T20 leagues was\u2019 more rewarding as a player.\u2019 Currently, Steyn is in Karachi as a part of the Quetta Gladiators squad for the Pakistan Super League (PSL).<\/p>\n
Steyn said that the big squads and big names at IPL take attention from cricket as more focus is given on the amount of money players earn. Somewhere down the line, cricket gets forgotten, Steyn added.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have found that playing in other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player,\u201d Steyn told YouTube channel Cricket Pakistan.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you go to IPL, there are such big squads and there are so many big names and there\u2019s so much emphasis on the amount of money that the players earn that sometimes, somewhere along the line the cricket gets forgotten,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Steyn had announced earlier that he won\u2019t be available for IPL 2021. He was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team for IPL 2020 but was released by the team right before the player auction in February.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you come to (a tournament) like PSL or Sri Lankan Premier League, there really is an importance on the cricket. I have only been here for a couple of days and I have had people in and out of my room just wanting to know about where I have played and how I went about it,\u201d Steyn said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhereas sometimes when you go to the IPL, that kind of gets forgotten. The main topic is how much money did you go for this IPL. And that\u2019s just me being brutally honest.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to probably stay away from that this year and put more emphasis on playing and bringing good vibes to good cricket teams,\u201d Steyn added.<\/p>\n
