\u201cFrom what I\u2019m hearing and seeing, if England can come and tour, if the ISL (Indian Super League) can happen all in Goa, if Vijay Hazare Trophy (domestic 50-over competition) and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20 competition) can happen across venues, I can\u2019t fathom the IPL moving out of India,\u201d Jindal said during a chat with ESPNcricinfo after Thursday\u2019s auction in Chennai. \u201cI do believe the IPL will happen in India.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe they\u2019re contemplating whether to have the league phase at one venue (city) and playoffs at another venue. There\u2019s a lot of chatter about Mumbai being possibly being one venue because it has three grounds (Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium) and enough practice facilities, and Motera (Ahmedabad) hosting the knockouts, but it\u2019s all unverified, it\u2019s all just what I am hearing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jindal further stated that having the league matches in Mumbai could be advantageous to the Capitals as they have several players from the city in their squad. However, the possibility of playing in Mumbai is minimal given the increase in covid-19 cases in Maharashtra which has prompted a new round of lockdown.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you look at our selection of Steven Smith, we felt the wickets in Mumbai will suit his style of batting.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact that we have so many Mumbai boys \u2013 Prithvi [Shaw], Jinks [Ajinkya Rahane], Shreyas [Iyer] helps. Mumbai has true bounce, the ball moves a bit because it\u2019s on the coast, and all that played a role. The other option that is being mulled right now is, why not open up all venues, go everywhere and show the world we\u2019re ready for the T20 World Cup? They [BCCI] are still unsure, I think it all depends on how the covid situation plays out in India over the next two weeks,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
While the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that \u2018this year is going to be big as well because of what it is\u2019 earlier last week without giving further details on the venue. However, over the last few months, he has been vocal about hosting the tournament in India.\u201dWe\u2019ll see whether we can get the crowd back into the IPL, it\u2019s a decision we\u2019ll have to take very shortly.
