She is now the first British woman to lift the title in 53 years while also being the first British woman in 44 years to win a singles Grand Slam title. The all-teenage major final was the first since the 1999 US Open when Serena Williams defeated Martina Hingis to lift her first Grand Slam singles title.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 18-year-old started her year as world number 345 and soon moved on to number 338 in the first round of Wimbledon this year. Raducanu entered the fourth round at Wimbledon where she had to retire from the match due to breathing difficulty mid-game. However, her performance boosted her ranking to world number 179. She was later ranked at number 150 before the US Open.
