Indian-American tennis player Samir Banerjee enters the boy\u2019s singles final at the junior Wimbledon Championship on 10th July. He defeated Sascha by 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2 in two minutes short of two hours in the semi-final encounter. The 17-year-old-right-hander will face American Victor Lilov in the first all-American final since 2014. The American thrashed China\u2019s number one player Juncheng Shang by 6-3, 6-1 in the other semi-finals.<\/p>\n
Samir performed brilliantly as he is 19th in the ITF junior rankings as of July 5 2021. He sent down seven aces as compared to three by Sascha, and earned 67% points on the first serve compared to 57% by Sascha. The Indo-American player started playing tennis at the age of six. In the semi-final match, he made 27 errors which were lesser than 33 of Sascha, who failed with his serve and sent down 11 double faults. Samir just made four double faults.<\/p>\n
Samir told the official Wimbledon website, \u201cIt was crazy, that\u2019s definitely the biggest crowd I\u2019ve played in front of. I think I had the crowd support for the most part, so that was an amazing experience, and then to win on top of that is something I\u2019ll remember forever.\u201d<\/p>\n
