It was official on Wednesday night that the Russian is selling the club and Conor McGregor has emerged as a surprise candidate to buy it.<\/p>\n<p>Abramovich\u00a0became Chelsea\u2019s owner\u00a0in 2003 but was criticized because of his links to Vladimir Putin and the Russian government that invaded Ukraine. In response, he released a statement on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have always taken decisions with the club\u2019s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of\u00a0Chelsea\u2019s charitable foundation the stewardship and care of\u00a0Chelsea. \u201d he said in a statement released on\u00a0Chelsea\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>However, the trustees of the charitable foundation reported this to the Charity Commission in the UK, so the Russian had to look for other options. Along with Conor McGregor, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Todd Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss, and Stephen Ross are the potential buyers of Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Jim Ratcliffe has a net worth of 6.33 billion Euros, Todd Boehly\u2019s is 4 billion euros, Hansjorg Wyss also with 4 billion euros, and finally the money and brains behind the controversial European Super League, Stephen Ross with 6 billion euros.<\/p>\n<p>Although McGregor is the highest-paid athlete on <em>Forbes 2021,\u00a0<\/em>ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, his net worth is a mere 135 million euros.
