Egypt defeated Ivory Coast to reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022. The result was decided in the penalties as both the teams failed to score even a single goal in the whole 120 minutes. This defeat costs Ivory Coast this season\u2019s AFCON trophy as they are out of the competition. This round of 16 game between Ivory Coast and Egypt took place on Wednesday at Douala Stadium. Liverpool\u2019s number 11 and Egypt\u2019s number 10, Mohamed Salah was been named in the starting 11 and he played every single minute of the game. He also scored the last penalty to send Egypt through to the next stage of the competition (AFCON 2022).<\/p>\n
Despite the game being goalless, it was interesting to watch both the teams playing their heart out to go to the quarter-finals. Manchester United\u2019s defender Eric Bailly was also been named in the Ivory Coast\u2019s starting 11 and he performed really well in the game. The 27-year-old centre-back took an early yellow card after a poor challenge. Despite this card, he and his centre-back partner Simon Deli defended very well to restrict Egypt from scoring goals. Though Egypt had more shots in the game they only managed to keep 5 on the target as compared to Ivory Coast\u2019s 8.<\/p>\n
