World Cup winning England Captain, Eoin Morgan broke India\u2019s \u2018Captain Cool\u2019, MS Dhoni\u2019s long-standing international record for most sixes as a captain on Tuesday during the third ODI against Ireland at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.<\/p>\n
Morgan, who has 328 international sixes to his name, went past Dhoni\u2019s tally of most sixes as a captain when he hit his 212th six.<\/p>\n
Dhoni has 211 sixes as captain in 332 matches. Morgan, on the other hand, reached 212 sixes in less than half number of matches (163).<\/p>\n
Dhoni, however, is still ahead of Morgan in terms career sixes in all three formats combined. Dhoni has 359 sixes, compared to Morgan\u2019s 328.<\/p>\n
Australia captain Ricky Ponting is third on the list with 171 sixes as captain followed by New Zealand\u2019s Brendon McCullum who has 170.<\/p>\n
Eoin Morgan, known for his destructive batting ability smashed a mammoth 106 of 84 balls with five sixes, bolstering England\u2019s total to 328. Ireland however, proved their mettle as more than worthy competitors, chasing down successfully the largest total for any team in England ever.<\/p>\n
This was also the first instance when captains of both sides hit centuries in the same match in an ODI in England.<\/p>\n
\u201cPaul Stirling had a day out and he\u2019s the ability to do that,\u201d Morgan told reporters after the match. \u201cBut we play against world class players all the time and you know when you do, you need to take those opportunities because they will hurt you.<\/p>\n
\u201cIreland played really well and thoroughly deserved to win.\u201d<\/p>\n
