{"id":1106,"date":"2020-08-05T13:25:13","date_gmt":"2020-08-05T07:55:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/sports\/?p=28995"},"modified":"2020-08-05T13:25:13","modified_gmt":"2020-08-05T07:55:13","slug":"ireland-successfully-chase-down-329-versus-england-to-enter-the-record-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/sports\/cricket\/ireland-successfully-chase-down-329-versus-england-to-enter-the-record-books\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland successfully chase down 329 versus England to enter the record books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie posted centuries to propel Ireland to only its second win over England in international cricket after overcoming the World Cup champions in the final over of Tuesday\u2019s one-day match.<\/p>\n<p>Set a target of 329 \u2014 the same score they finished on to beat England at the 2011 World Cup \u2014 the Irish laid the foundations with a 214-run stand between Stirling and captain Balbirnie in the last match of the series.<\/p>\n<p>Chasing this mammoth total of 329, not only did Ireland successfully achieve this feat, but in doing so went past India who held the record for the highest successful ODI chase in England for the NatWest trophy Final.\u00a0 Previously, the record was held by India, chasing 326 in 2002. During that chase, Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh stole the show. Similarly in Ireland\u2019s blistering chase of 329, Stirling and Balbirnie shone most brightly.<\/p>\n<p><b>Highest successful chase vs ENG in England<\/b><\/p>\n<p>329 by Ireland, Rose Bowl 2020*<\/p>\n<p>326 by India, Lord\u2019s 2002<\/p>\n<p>322 by Sri Lanka, Leed 2006<\/p>\n<p>317 by India, The Oval 2007<\/p>\n<p>Stirling was run out for 142 and Balbirnie holed out for 113 with 50 still required from 33 deliveries, but Kevin O\u2019Brien \u2013 the hero nine years ago in Bangalore \u2013 fittingly secured a seven-wicket victory for Ireland on the penultimate ball.<\/p>\n<p>After being asked to bat first, England had stuttered to 44-3 but Eoin Morgan\u2019s 106 from 84 balls was the cornerstone of 328 all out in 49.5 overs, the captain sharing a 146-run stand with Tom Banton.<\/p>\n<p>England won the series 2-1 but Balbirnie took pride in the fact his team can now boast victories over the world champions in two limited-overs formats, having toppled the West Indies in a Twenty20 international in January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve beaten the T20 world champions in their own backyards and we\u2019ve beaten the ODI champions,\u201d Balbirnie said. \u201cIt\u2019s a huge win for us and this group.
