While the English fans were still recovering from the mourning of the demise of Jimmy greaves, the news of Roger Hunt\u2019s departure shook them furthermore.<\/p>\n
Hunt, aged 83, passed away on Monday evening after a long illness. He was a prolific striker, who played for Liverpool where he scored a record 244 goals, in his 11-year long career. Under Billy Shankly, he won 2 league cups and 1 F.A. Cup for his club. He\u2019s said to have set the bar in the history of Liverpool\u2019s history for the generations of new players to come. Although Ian Rush was able to surpass him as the all-time goal scorer for the club, Hunt still has the record for most league goals for the Reds, since Rush scored more goals in other tournaments. He was also a part of the English squad that defeated West Germany in the 1966 world cup final. Hunt played six games in that tournament and scored three goals. On several occasions in his career, he had partnered up with the late Jimmy Greeves. He was won 34 caps for England.<\/p>\n
Roger Hunt was also the first player to score a goal which was first televised on BBC match of the day. Roger Hunt was inducted into the English Hall of Fame in 2006. Even when he was never dubbed as a Knight, fans preferred to call him Sir Roger. Commenting over the same Hunt once said, \u201cI never needed it\u2026 I was knighted by the Kop. That means more.\u201d<\/p>\n
