Paris Saint-Germain has signed Italy\u2019s Euro 2020 star Gianluigi Donnarumma for a five-year deal.<\/p>\n
AC Milan has released the 22-year-old after failing to agree to terms on an extension of his contract, which expired on June 30. Despite strong competition from Barcelona, PSG managed to sign the highly-rated goalkeeper, who will earn around 12 million Euros ($14.2 million) per year plus add-ons in France.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am delighted to be part of this huge club,\u201d Donnarumma told PSG\u2019s club website. \u201cI feel ready to take on this new challenge and continue to grow here. With Paris, I want to win as much as possible and to bring joy to the supporters.\u201d<\/p>\n
It was Donnarumma\u2019s first trip to Paris, days after Italy won Euro 2020, which was their first major title in 15 years. Following England\u2019s defeat to Italy in Sunday\u2019s Euro 2020 final, he was named UEFA\u2019s Player of the Tournament minutes after saving penalties from Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka. Roberto Mancini\u2019s side won their three group games, winning the penalty shootout against Spain and England thanks to the 22-year old goalkeeper, who kept three clean sheets and saved crucial spot-kicks.<\/p>\n
Mino Raiola, the player\u2019s agent, and AC Milan have been in talks for several months, but the 22-year-old has not been able to agree to a new contract with the club he has represented since the age of 14. Since coming through the youth ranks in 2015, Donnarumma has kept 88 clean sheets in 251 appearances for the club in all competitions. In this season\u2019s Serie A, he was instrumental in helping Milan finish second and get back into the Champions League after a seven-year absence.<\/p>\n
Besides signing Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum on free transfers from Real Madrid and Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain also signed Inter Milan right-back Achraf Hakimi.
