On his 71st birthday, Sunil Gavaskar, also known as Sunny decided to sponsor heart surgeries for 35 children. These heart surgeries are to be performed at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Kharghar. Gavaskar has decided to come to the aid of these families, who cannot afford such expensive surgeries for their children.<\/p>\n
He has decided to repeat this action after the one he performed last year. The number 35 is particularly significant because it signifies the number of centuries he has made for India<\/p>\n
While there are many areas of need that one can serve, children have a special place of importance.They remain the joy of every family and usher in hope of a bright future that we all look forward to.\u201d Gavaskar was quoted telling Times of India.<\/p>\n
Explaining the motivation behind his action, the former India captain said: \u201cSadly, congenital heart disease is the commonest defect at birth in India. Many have no chance to survive and lead a life of dignity. And most of them are poor, and care is limited in the country. The \u2018Heart to Heart Foundation,\u2019 which I work for, provides hundreds of these children the gift of life, through Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centres for Children Healthcare in Naya Raipur, Palwal, Haryana, and Kharghar, Navi Mumbai free of cost. The motto there is \u2018only dil, no bill\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
