After Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav became the second Indian to earn a spot in the 2022 World Athletics Championships men’s javelin throw finals on Friday. In the history of the World Championships, this is the first time two Indians have participated in a final.
Rohit, 21, has advanced his career significantly by reaching the final on his first Worlds trip. The only male Indian javelin thrower to reach the finals in earlier competitions was Davinder Singh Kang (2017). Two male throwers from India will compete in the final this year. Rohit placed 11th overall in the qualification round with a throw of 80.42 metres. He has now surpassed the 80-meter mark five times this year.
The final will take place on Saturday night (Sunday morning 7 am IST). Thus, Neeraj, Rohit, and Annu Rani—the three javelin throwers that India sent to the World Championships—have all advanced to the finals.
