Third consecutive gold for India, Deepak Punia does it on his debut at Commonwealth Games 2022

Before Deepak, Sakshi and Bajrang bagged two, one each at the Commonwealth Games 2022 today.

Unassailable on his debut, Deepak Punia wins gold and makes it the third consecutive today at the Commonwealth Games 2022, in the men’s 86kg final, defeating Muhammad Inam of Pakistan.

Bajrang Punia’s victory in the 65 kg final gave him his second gold medal in a row at the Commonwealth Games. Later, Sakshi Malik used a pin to defeat her rival and win the women’s 62kg title, giving India its second wrestling gold medal. Then, in the men’s 86kg final, Deepak Punia defeated Muhammad Inam of Pakistan to give India three victories overall.

Anshu Malik, meanwhile, finished in second place in the women’s 57kg final after losing. Mohit Grewal (125 kg) and Divya Kakran (68 kg) have a chance to win bronze and bring India’s total number of medals in wrestling to six.
