Not good news for all the tennis fans and WTA Mutua Madrid Open as World No. 1 Iga Swiatek pulls out of the tournament. The Polish professional was a heavy favourite at Madrid, Spain clay event but was forced to withdraw from it following an injury to her right shoulder.
Swiatek wrote on her Instagram handle about her sudden withdrawal saying, “Unfortunately my team and I decided that I need to withdraw from Madrid.” She further stated that she expects to be back at the tournament next year.

“Iga Swiatek has withdrawn from the Mutua Madrid Open due to a right shoulder injury,” reported WTA Insider from their official social media handle. Poland’s Swiatek has so far lifted four WTA trophies this year back to back taking her winning streak to a very long 23 games. The top-seeded player continued to be impressive with her tremendous performance and became a heavy favourite for every tournament she participated in.
20-year-old Iga came past several seeded and quality players to clinch four WTA titles in her 2022 tennis season. The former French Open champion bagged Qatar Open defeating Anett Kontaveit, she came past Maria Sakkari at Indian Wells Masters, four times Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka at Miami Open and recently outdated second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka to clinch her fourth title at the Stuttgart Open.
