Roger Federer knocked out British Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 and reached the fourth round of Wimbledon for the 18th time to keep his dream of the 9th title alive. He becomes the oldest to reach the tournament fourth round in the Open Era at the age of 39 since Ken Rosewall (40) in 1975.

“I am super relieved. It was a tough match with him. A little extra around but he had the right to that third set since he played excellent today. For me, I felt I was able to keep a high level of play and he got that good break at the end of the third but overall I can be very happy with how I played,” said Federer after reaching the fourth round of a Grand Slam for 69th time.

“I have liked every minute and I hope there’s a bit more left in me. It’s a pleasure to be still playing right now. It’s special because I am almost 40 and at this point, it’s all a bonus and I will see how far I can go here,” he added.

Norris, star of the ATP tour of the season who reached three finals had two chances to break in the second game of the second set but that didn’t help him to wrap up victory in two hours and 34 minutes.

The Swiss will next face Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego.
