Lloyd Harris of South Africa has beaten Denis Shapovalov in the third-round match of the US Open 2021 on Sunday. This victory means Lloyd is going to his first major fourth round. In any of the major tournaments, be it the Australian Open or French Open, the 24-year-old professional never progressed to the fourth round. But this time he breaks his record by qualifying for the fourth round of the US Open 2021. Before this, the third-round elimination in the Australian Open 2021 was Lloyd’s highest ever finish in any major tournament.
In the first round, when the South African was against Karen Khachanov of Russia, the game went to the fifth set to decide the winner and Lloyd managed to clinch the win. He then faced Ernesto Escobedo in the second round and defeated him by 3-0. The 24-year-old South African made the third-round game one-sided again. Lloyd never let Denis Shapovalov of Canada settle in the game and won all three sets by the same scoreline of 6-4. The South African Harris hit 10 aces whereas the Canadian could only manage to hit 7. All the stats including the score was leaned heavily towards the South African and thus, he won the third-round match deservingly.
