Emma Raducanu continued with her amazing run at the U.S. Open today by dominating American Shelby Rogers 6-2, 6-1 to progress towards her first Grand Slam quarter-final. She hasn’t dropped a set from the qualifying rounds till now which can be considered a major accomplishment for her as she has comfortably defeated all her opponents in the Grand Slam.
The 18-year old broke out when she progressed towards the fourth round of Wimbledon this year and it was her debut Grand Slam appearance. She has dominated all her opponents in the US Open and has done one better already.
After a dominant 6-0 6-1 win over Sara Sorribes Tormo, she continued on the same path against Shelby Rogers as she dispatched the 28-year-old American pretty handily within an hour and six minutes. Raducanu had a very nervous start as Rogers started very strongly in the first set and took an early break to take the lead 2-0 but the British teenager came back in a roaring fashion as she did not give the more experienced player any room to breathe. Raducanu in an absolute ruthless fashion disposed of her, taking consecutive games during the first set.
Unlike the game against Barty, Shelby couldn’t muster up a comeback against Raducanu who smothered her way to the quarterfinals.
Raducanu’s next opponent is the Olympic gold medal winner and the 11th seed from Switzerland Belinda Bencic who defeated Poland’s 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek 7-6(12), 6-3. Raducanu said that she knows her next opponent is a great player who is in great form, hence she has to bring it on Wednesday.
