Ankita Raina with Indian Ranking 1 and World Ranking 193 was against USA’s Jimmie Loeb who is placed at 194th place in the world ranking. The game was head to head as Ankita won only 1 out of the last 5 matches and Jamie won 2 out of the 5 matches. Being India’s topped rank player and only the fifth Indian to be ranked under 200 hopes were high to get a great performance from her in this tournament.
She lost by 3-6, 6-2, and 4-6 and her journey for the US open 2021 came to an end. It was not a good day for Ankita as she made many unforced errors that helped to shift the momentum of the game against her. She was able to capitalise on Jamie’s six double faults.
Even with a bad start when Jamie broke her in the first service game she made a comeback in the fourth game but lost the first set by 3-6. She came back stronger in the second set and got the set with 6-2 and pushed the match to a decider set and push the game into her momentum.
Though she was not able to continue the aggression in the deciding set as she lost her tempo in the very first service game even with a comeback in the third game she was not able to sustain herself into a 1hr 56-minute match and lost the deciding set by 4-6 and got thrashed out from US Open 2021.
