Young Indian tennis players, Sumit Nagal and Mukund Sasikumar’s decision not to play in the Davis Cup has upset the AITA.

The Indian professional tennis players named Sumit Nagal and Mukund Sasi Kumar have refused to play in the Davis cup. The Indians are making excuses of either injury or something else for not playing in the tournament (Davis Cup). This decision of the young Indians Sumit and Mukund has upset the All India Tennis Association (AITA). The AITA wants both the Indian player to participate in the tournament named Davis Cup which is an international tennis event for Men’s and it is a tea event that is conducted every year.

In this year’s tournament, Indian professionals Nagal and Mukund will not be seen playing as they have cancelled their names from the tournament. The 24-year-old Indian, Nagal is refused to play in this knock-out format cup because of his hip injury about which he told the AITA on 28th August 2021, but the Indian is still competing in the Challenger Banja Luka, BA tournament. Nagal played his last match in this Challenger tournament on Wednesday against Spanish player Carlos Gomez-Herrera.

“To see our player Sumit Nagal playing other tournaments and not playing Davis Cup is upsetting. We definitely want our best players to play for the country, no doubt about it,” AITA Secretary General Anil Dhupar told to PTI.

Meanwhile, Mukund is giving another reason saying he is not that capable to play in this Davis Cup and also he feels he has this right to choose the tournaments he wants to play in. As the excuses of both the players have not impressed the AITA and they could hold a meeting with the Indians to talk with them about this matter. However, the AITA has put another Indian tennis player named Saketh Myneni in place of Sumit Nagal.
