Rafael Nadal to not play Barcelona next week

The Spaniard played his last match in the Indian Wells Masters final losing the title to Taylor Fritz.

Rafael Nadal will not play at Barcelona next week as it was anticipated following his foot injury, reports tennis journalist Jose Morgado. The 21-times Grand Slam champion is working on coming back to Madrid and his return match is expected to be played on May 4th.

Nadal has been struggling because of his foot injury. The Clay master missed majors last year and was sidelined for four months before he made a fire comeback in Melbourne. He debuted the 2022 tennis season with an ATP Summerset trilogy followed by his historical Australian Open triumph defeating World No. 2 Russian Daniil Medvedev in a long-fought match. The No. 4 ATP star then clinched a trophy at Mexican Open before he lost against Taylor Fritz in the final of the BNP Paribas Open.

Following a discomfort in a semifinal against Reilly Opelka at the Indian Wells, the 35-year-old decided to go through tests that suggested he rule himself out for a few more weeks before he can expect to defend his 22nd Grand Slam title at the Roland Garros tournament.
