Rafael Nadal struggles physically against Denis Shapovalov ahead of Roland Garros

Nadal is currently fighting against Denis Shapovalov in the Italian Open quarterfinals.

Rafael Nadal apparently struggled and limped in the third set against Denis Shapovalov at the last 16 of the Italian Open ahead of the Grand Slam in France. The Canadian won the second set 7-5 against the King of Clay and forced the third set where the Spaniard seemed to have some discomfort physically.

Nadal started his 2022 tennis season with a trophy at ATP Summerset in Melbourne followed by historical Grand Slam wins counting to 21 at the Australian Open. He won three titles before he took a break after his exit at the Indian Wells Masters final against the eventual winner Taylor Fritz. The player was back at Madrid Open before losing to the winner of the tournament Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals.

The 21-times Grand Slam champion had complained about foot disturbance during his semifinals clash at the BNP Paribas Open against Reilly Opelka. It was expected that nothing can cause him trouble except his injuries and physical problems with his tremendous form and season. With him struggling, the chances of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz go higher at the French Open tournament.
