Nadal has been an idol for Alacarz. The duo met for the second time at this year’s Indian Wells Masters where the 21 times Grand Slam champion defeated the teenage sensation in one of the most entertaining matches of the season.

Rafael Nadal was quick enough to congratulate Carlos Alcaraz for his historical victory in Miami Open that moved him ahead at No. 11 in the ATP rankings. The 18-year-old Spaniard became the youngest player to win at the event breaking Novak Djokovic’s record of the year 2007.

Nadal through his official social media handle wrote, “Congratulations Carlitos (Carlos Alcaraz) for your historical triumph in Miami. The first of many to come, for sure.” The 21-times Grand Slam champion, who broke the record of most Slams in men’s singles history surpassing Serbian Djokovic and Roger Federer, also congratulated Casper Ruud for his stunning run at the ATP 1000 event, with another tweet.
