World No. 1 Novak Djokovic beats Gael Monfils at the ATP Mutua Madrid Open. The Serb has now beaten the 35-year-old from France 18 times in their total encounters.

Djokovic did not have a very good advancement yet except for reaching the final at Serbia Open where he was beaten by Andrey Rublev on home soil. The 34-year-old from Serbia is looking forward to improving his form ahead of the Roland Garros tournament. The 20-times Grand Slam champion looked great against Monfils to advance to the next round in Madrid Spain with a score of 6-3, 6-2.

The Serbian will continue to stay at No. 1 in the ATP rankings following this win against the Frenchman. He now awaits either Andy Murray, who defeated Dominic Thiem in the first round or Canadian Denis Shapovalov who came past Ugo Humbert at the Round of 64 clash. Briton Murray and Shapovalov of Canada are scheduled to have a clash tonight at 12:05 am IST.
