This week’s ATP Tour is highlighted by a hard-court ATP 500 double-header featuring some of the best players in the world, which will take place in Astana and Tokyo. The Astana Open, an indoor competition in Kazakhstan, has a field that includes Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic in addition to world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
At the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships, Casper Ruud is the tournament’s top seed outside. The World No. 3 is going for his first hard-court championship of the year and his first ATP 500 trophy in his career. In Japan, Nick Kyrgios is also competing. The Australian is looking to build on his tournament victory from last year.
A large number of elite players travel to Astana to increase their chances of competing in the Nitto ATP Finals, which will take place in Turin from November 13–20. Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the third seed, have already qualified for those competitions.
The top two qualifying positions are currently held by Andrey Rublev (sixth) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (seventh), although Hubert Hurkacz (ninth) might overtake them both if he wins the Kazakhstan Grand Prix. All three are making their Astana debuts this week.
