Matteo Berrettini reaches career-high ATP rankings, becomes second highest-ranked Italian

The changes in the ATP rankings were obvious after the Australian Open 2022 tournament. Many players gained their career-high positions following their impressive run this year.

Matteo Berrettini has reached his career-high No. 6 that is one spot ahead of his rankings before he had reached the semifinals of the first Grand Slam.

The Italian gained (+2) career-high ranking after he advanced to the semifinals phrase at the Australian Open. He defeated Gael Monfils in the Quarterfinal and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta of the tournament, the ones who come in the top 20.

The 25-year-old faced Rafael Nadal in the semis where he was overpowered by the Spaniard who won his 2nd Australian Open trophy and a record of 21st Grand Slam at Melbourne Park.

Other than Italian, many other players have gained points and rankings namely Denis Shapovalov. Well deserved Canadian jumped two spots ahead at No. 12 after his outstanding run at the 2022 season. Shapovalov started his 2022 tennis season in Melbourne with ATP Cup, where he power fled his side ‘Team Canada’ to win its first ATP Cup title. His individual performance at the singles along with his Canadian partner Felix Auger-Aliassime was the reason Canada achieved the title in Melbourne.

One more of them is Gael Monfils of France who was defeated by Berrettini in the quarters of the Australian Open 2022. The Frenchman jumped into four positions ahead at No. 16 as his career-high ranking for reaching the quarters of the Grand Slam for the first time since 2016.
