Marija Cicak is set as the first female umpire to officiate Men’s Singles final at Wimbledon tomorrow

Marija Cicak is set to be Chair Umpire at tomorrow’s Men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini which is not so usual in the history of the Wimbledon tournament. She will become the first female umpire of a men’s singles final in more than 130-year of the championship.

The 43-year-old from Croatia has operated at 15 successive Championships and 10 year-end WTA Finals as well as in several Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup ties around the globe. She had supervised as the Chair Umpire for the final of women’s doubles at Wimbledon previously in 2017 and umpired at the 2014 Wimbledon women’s final clash between Petra Kvitova and Eugenie Bouchard. She also managed at the Rio Olympics of the year 2016 women’s singles gold medal match.

She is now going to umpire the clash between the 19 times Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini who is behind his first Grand Slam title.

World number one Serb is after his third Grand Slam title of the year having already won the Australian and the French Open 2021. He is also behind the record of winning his 20th Grand Slam title which will bind him with tennis genius Roger Federer and King of Clay Rafael Nadal.
