Naomi Osaka got out of US Open 2021 on Saturday after getting defeated against the Canadian teenager named Leylah Fernandez in the third round. She was in tears after this shocking loss as she won the competition in 2020. The Japanese professional smacked her racket on the ground when she was defeated in the second and third set by 6-7 and 4-6 against Leylah in the third round.
Naomi was in the press conference after the match, where she seemed very unhappy with the defeat. She told that she is going to take some time before coming back to tennis again. Earlier this year, in July, the Japanese also made a statement that was posted on her Instagram account that she is withdrawing her name from the French Open because of her mental illness. She never spoke about her mental illness in public before that. Now, she is thinking of another break from tennis but didn’t mention the time for how long the break will be.
She is extremely sad after this loss as she came here in the third round match after winning sixteen consecutive matches in the major tournaments.
“This is very hard to articulate. I honestly don’t know when I’m going to play my next tennis match. Sorry. I think I’m going to take a break from playing for a while,” Naomi said according to AFP in her post-match press conference.
