Iga Swiatek makes another record in Rome

Swiatek becomes the first female player to win 24+ back to back matches since Serena Williams in 2015.

Iga Swiatek keeps making records with her impressive form this season. The 20-year-old has become everyone’s favourite and a high threat on clay. The former French Open champion won her opening round against Elena-Gabriela Ruse in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-0 to extend her winning streak to 24 matches. The win is now the longest WTA streak since America’s Serena Williams won that recorded 27 straight victories in the year 2015.

Swiatek took a break following her four consecutive WTA titles and did not play at Mutua Madrid Open. The No. 1 WTA player is now back on clay as her favourite surface, to continue with her tremendous form. The Polish professional is scheduled to face Victoria Azarenka at the Round of 16 of the Italian Open tomorrow at Centre Court at 4:30 pm* IST.
