I love these challenges: Petra Kvitova on facing Iga Swiatek next

The Czech is set to meet soon to be World No. 1 Iga Swiatek tomorrow at the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.

Petra Kvitova has never played against Iga Swiatek but she seems to be very excited to be in action against the Polish emerging star who has been in very good form this year. The Czech professional is set to meet Swiatek tomorrow at the quarterfinals of the Miami Open and this is going to be their first encounter.

“I never played Iga, she is becoming No. 1 and I love these challenges,” said Kvitova for her, next and a very strong opponent Swiatek, reported tennis writer Jose Morgado.

The 20-year-old, who won the French Open in 2020, Swiatek’s form this season is tremendous and very consistent having already won two WTA 1000 titles namely Qatar Open and Indian Wells Masters 2022. Her previous win at the BNP Paribas moved her up to the No. 2 spot in the WTA rankings and her victory in the second round of the ongoing tournament in Florida was enough to give her the crown of No. 1.

Swiatek will be crowned World No. 1 after the Miami Open ends following her incredible form as Ashleigh Barty’s sudden retirement and her request to remove her name from the rankings.

Poland’s Swiatek is the favourite to win tomorrow while Czech Kvitova struggled with early exits this season.
