I feel for Naomi: Daniil Medvedev on Osaka bursting into tears at Indian Wells

Medvedev who also felt the same at the first Grand Slam of the year backs Naomi Osaka.

Naomi Osaka was broken into tears at the Indian Wells Masters exit against Veronika Kudermetova on March 13, Sunday. According to reports, a fan from the stands heckled the player during her game. Japanese later stated that the booing didn’t make her upset as this was not the first time. The thing that bought tears to her eyes as she watched a video where Serena Williams was heckled in the same tournament and that video kept playing repeatedly in her head.

Talking about the incident, Daniil Medvedev said, “I feel for Naomi. I also didn’t feel very well in Australia. I can imagine the fans thinking, ‘They’re earning millions, they should be prepared for anything.’ But we’re still human. We all make mistakes. Sometimes we feel bad,” reported We Are Tennis.

Medvedev, who was crowned World No. 1 by ATP Rankings after Djokovic’s quarterfinal loss against Jiri Vesely at Dubai Tennis Championship, has now lost the top ranking following his defeat against Gael Monfils at Indian Wells. The Russian can still achieve this if he reaches the semifinals of the Miami Open.
