Historic win for Carlos Alcaraz, defeats Rafael Nadal out of Madrid Open to face Novak Djokovic

Alcaraz will play World No. 1 Novak Djokovic to book a spot at the final of the Madrid Open.

Carlos Alcaraz, the 18-year-old emerging star of Spain has finally defeated his idol, Rafael Nadal and taken revenge for the Indian Wells Masters’ defeat. The Spanish professional outlasted Nadal in an intense match with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the Madrid Open and play World No. 1 Novak Djokovic to book a spot in the final.

With the win for the first time in their last three encounters, Alcaraz becomes the first-ever teenager to win against the 21-times Grand Slam champion on clay. He is now 26-3 in this tennis season and has won eight matches and 14 of his last 15 following his victory over his idol a day after his birthday

Alcaraz previously beat Cameron Norrie in the Round of 16 and Nikoloz Basilashvili in the Round of 32 to reach this level. He will now play against No. 1 ATP player Djokovic who outlasted Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals after receiving a takeover from former World No. 1 Andy Murray.
