The former world number one Tennis player and four-time Grand Slam winner, Jim Courier came in support of the current number 1 Tennis player Novak Djokovic. Djokovic wrote a letter to Tennis Australia CEO Craig Titley complaining about the services they are providing in hard lockdown in Melbourne. He suggests them to improve the conditions for the 72 players who are in lockdown. The event became the centre of the backlash and many called it insensitive and act of selfishness.
Novak Djokovic gets criticized as well as getting the support from some. Craig Titley himself clarified that he did nothing wrong there, he just demanded few changes. Also, the former legends Boris Becker and Chris Evert also asserted that the Serb did nothing wrong.
Former world champion Jim Courier recently claimed that Djokovic has gone the extra mile for the sake of his peers and that rather than criticizing him Australian public should give him another chance to clarify the things.
“Novak Djokovic has gone out of his way to stand up for other players in Australia. He was being a leader and it just came off wrong in the public and I hope the Australian public will give him another chance to at least explain himself,” Courier said.
After getting in the light of media Djokovic himself clarified that his actions were misconstructed and that he was only trying to help his fellows. Courier, also accepted the fact that Novak is very sensitive to his public image.
“He is sensitive to public opinion. He spends energy trying to court public opinion and based on what he’s done on the court he should be a huge fan favourite. He’s just come up at a time that a lot of the fan base have decided they’re a Roger Federer fan or a Rafael Nadal fan,” Courier added.
