Dominic Theim, who returned to tennis after nine long months and expressed his emotions about coming back to be able to play again, has to be sidelined again. The Austrian professional has tested positive for COVID-19.
The player started feeling unwell since last night’s dinner. Following mild symptoms, he decided to go for a test and it, unfortunately, came positive for the virus. “Looks like the good news don’t last long,” said Thiem. He further on his official social media handle wrote, “After developing mild symptoms I decided to take a test this morning, which came back positive for COVID-19.”
Looks like lately the good news don’t last long – last night after dinner, I started feeling unwell and didn’t have a good night. After developing mild symptoms I decided to take a test this morning, which came back positive for COVID-19.

The 28-year-old from Austria underwent an injury-plagued season in 2021 and last appeared in June of that year because of his right wrist problems. Thiem was happy to return to court after being sidelined for months but the happiness didn’t last long. He only could play one game yesterday at the Marbella Challenger losing to Pedro Cachin and now have to go through another period of inaction.
Today’s been one of those days with big emotions and mixed feelings. You can imagine how happy I was today to be on a tennis court, doing what I love the most: playing tennis and competing again.
