French Open: Teen Holger Rune eliminates Stefanos Tsitsipas to book a quarterfinals spot at Roland Garros

Rune will next face Casper Ruud for a fight to book a spot at the semifinals of the Grand Slam in Paris, France.

Teenager Holger Rune attempts a huge upset on his debut at the Roland Garros tournament. The Danish player removed the No. 5 player from Greek with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to book a spot at the French Open 2022 quarterfinals to face Casper Ruud next.

Rune pressed the Greek Tsitsipas throughout the match with deep, consistent returns that landed at his opponent’s laces and drove him to withdraw. Rune served brilliantly when it mattered most and moved up to the baseline when he could, finishing with a total of 54 wins. He was particularly effective at peppering Tsitsipas with subtle and well-timed drop shots.

In the fourth set, as Rune attempted to serve out Tsitsipas, he realised the gravity of the situation. With two breaks, he led 5-2, only to lose eight points in a row and find himself dangerously clinging to his advantage. He came back, saved the breakpoints, and moved on.
