French Open: Carlos Alcaraz, from qualifier to favourite at Roland Garros 2022 title race

No. 6 Alcaraz has beaten Nadal, Djokovic and Zverev, the top four ranked players to clinch his fourth ATP title of the year.

Carlos Alcaraz, the name has been all over the tennis feed and fans. The newly turned 19-year-old boy from Spain is now a serious title contender at the 2022 French Open tournament from a qualifier within 12 months. The Spanish professional is a heavy favourite and top three along with World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and King of Clay Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz has turned everyone into his fan this season through his tremendous and unbelievable performance at this age. Spanish teen Alcaraz has recently defeated three players ranked under the top 4  back to back to clinch the Madrid Open title. He hammered 21-times Grand Slam champion Nadal on clay in the quarterfinals followed by his stunning win over No. 1 ATP player Novak Djokovic in the last four and finally defeating No. 3 Alexander Zverev to bag his fourth ATP title of the year in Rome, Italy so far.

Last May, Alcaraz advanced to the third round of a major for the first time after winning back-to-back Grand Slam main draw appearances on the terre battue. He hasn’t had to qualify for a major since then.

Current World No. 6 Alcaraz has won a tour-leading four championships this season, including ATP 500s in Rio de Janeiro and Barcelona, as well as Masters 1000, wins in Miami and Madrid, thanks to a bulked-up frame and a better matured style since his watershed 2021.
