Former World No. 1 Simona Halep has withdrawn from Miami Open 2022

The Romanian was one of the heavy favourites at the tournament.

One of the favourites of the tournament in Florida, Simona Halep has withdrawn from the Miami Open 2022. An unfortunate left thigh injury forced the Romanian to do so.

Halep suffered a “sharp pain” in her left leg while she was practising in Maimi yesterday. The former World No. 1 revealed that she had been playing with disturbing thigh pain ever since her semifinals at the BNP Paribas Open, a two-week tennis event that just got finished this month. The player struggled with pain hoping for improvement but the MRI result compelled her to pull out from the tournament in Miami.

“My body needs time to heal and as a result, I will be out of competition for three weeks. This means I have bad to make the super tough decision to pull out of Miami, Charleston and Fed Cup,” announced the tennis professional from Romania, on her official Twitter handle.

Halep had been in very good form this year with her heading to the semifinals of her previous event at the Indian Wells Masters 2022.
