US Open champion Emma Raducanu is through to the second round of the WTA Mutua Madrid Open 2022 defeating Tereza Marticova 7-6(3), 6-0 in the opener. The match was her first appearance in Madrid.
Raducanu will now face Marta Kostyuk next at the Round of 32 fixture. Previously, the British professional recently played her last tournament on clay at the Stuttgart Open before losing to World No. 1 and the winner of the tournament Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals.
WTA Mutua Madrid Open started on 26 April with its qualifiers while the main draw started on April 28 in Madrid, Spain on red clay. The total commitment to the tournament is $6,575,560.
The tournament once was played on blue clay in 2012 for the first and only time but it was back to its original form after being criticised for the surface.
