Daniil Medvedev is just one win away from re-taking his No. 1 spot on the ATP rankings. The Russian cane back from 5-3 down to defeat Jenson Brooksby with a score of 7-5, 6-1 at the Round of 16 of the Miami Open. Medvedev awaits the winner between Llyod Harris and defending champion Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
It was required for Medvedev to reach the semifinals of the Miami Open to retake his No. 1 ranking from Serb Novak Djokovic. Daniil, following his tremendous form this season, was crowned World No. 1 and after Djokovic’s quarterfinals exit at the Dubai Tennis Championships this year. The 20-times Grand Slam champion was then back on top due to Medvedev’s early exit at the Indian Wells Masters 2022.
Medvedev has now won 10 out of his 11 last games and is anticipated to continue his form to become No. 1 again. The tennis professional from Russia has been in stunning form this season from the ATP Cup to reaching the final of the Australian Open and achieving the top rank.
