Daniil Medvedev beat Andy Murray to reach third round of Miami Open 2022

The Russian needs three more victories to go back to No. 1.

One of the most interesting fixtures between Daniil Medvedev and Andy Murray at the Miami Open 2022 Round of 64 which ended in favour for the Russian as he beat two-time champion Briton to reach the third round of the tournament.

Murray, who exited early at many tournaments in the last 18 months didn’t make it easy for Medvedev but the top-seeded player was a little better before he beat the 34-year-old in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. The former World No. 1 from Britain has now departed early from six tournaments in a row.

It was their second encounter as the duo met earlier in the year 2019 at Brisbane International and there too Murray was beaten by Medvedev as the head to head record extends to 2-0 for the Australian Open 2022 finalist.

World No. 2 Medvedev needs three more wins to reach the semifinals and re-gain the top spot at ATP rankings that he lost due to his early exit from the Indian Wells Masters’ Round of 32 against Gael Monfils. The player was crowned No. 1 following his tremendous run at the 2022 tennis season and Novak Djokovic’s quarterfinals exit at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
