The Spaniard beat Canada’s Denis Shapovalov in five sets to finalise first place at the semis while the Italian Berrettini defeated Gael Monfils of France to set up a clash with the 20 times Grand Slam champion. Both of them have only fought once to each other at the 2019 US Open semifinals where Nadal leads 1-0 h2h.
It’s the first time that Seventh seed Wimbledon finalist Berrettini has reached the semifinals of the Australian Open meanwhile Nadal, known as King of clay only has earned one Australian Open trophy.
The duo will clash against each other on Wednesday, 27th January. The winners between Nadal vs Berrettini will meet one among either Medvedev or Auger-Aliassime or Tsitsipas/Sinner at Sunday’s Grand Slam final for the battle of the trophy at the Rod Laver Arena.
World No. Two Medvedev will fight against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Italian Jannik Sinner tomorrow at 2 am IST and 9:30 am IST respectively to book a spot for the semifinals.
