This is Nadal’s sixth final at the Australian Open from which he has won only one so far, in 2009 where he defeated Swiss legend, Roger Federer. The Spanish 20-times Grand Slam champion dominated throughout against the Italian and is looking to book his 21st Grand Slam that will make him the man with most Grand Slams. The “big three” are currently tying with 20-Grand Slams each. In absence of Novak and Federer, the only tough opponent for Nadal left now is Medvedev if he reaches the final against Tsitsipas.

Coming from an injury where the 35-year-old was sidelined for four months due to a foot injury, Nadal started his 2022 tennis season successfully by winning the ATP Cup Summer Set in Melbourne amd the player has been unbeaten this season. Rafa was forced to withdraw from last year’s Wimbledon and Tokyo Olympics which resulted in his ATP ranks but winning the Grand Slam trophy in Melbourne will bring that back.

Another semifinal fixture between the Russian and Greek is scheduled for 2 am IST at the Rod Laver Arena. The winner between them will fight against King of Clay for the title of the Australian Open 2022.
