Australian Open: It’s Daniil Medvedev vs Rafael Nadal in the final, Russian beats Tsitsipas

Rafael Nadal will take on World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev to defend his record of 21st Grand Slam title on Sunday at Rod Laver Arena.

The final of the Australian Open 2022 has been confirmed to be between Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev. The Russian beat World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 to set up the clash and reach the Grand Slam final.

On facing Nadal in the final, Medvedev said in a post-match interview with the Australian Open, “Grand Slam finals are special.”

“I am ready! I know Rafa is a very strong player, I would need to show my best to try to win this match.”

Nadal has been very good this season coming back from a Grand Slam break and skipping Tokyo Olympics, he was sidelined for four months following a foot injury. The Spaniard bounced back into the 2022 season with a trophy at the ATP Cup 2022 Summer Set and is looking to surpass Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic with the most Grand Slams if he wins the Australian Open trophy that will be his 21st.

The Spaniard who is currently ranked sixth in the world will take on World No. 2 Medvedev on Sunday, At 2:00 pm IST at the Rod Laver Arena. Winning the trophy will send Rafa back on top while the Russian can grab the No. 1 spot in the rankings winning the trophy at Melbourne Park.
